This item seems to be identical in many ways to the Sharper Image Super Wave oven as seen on television. It is very large and lights up the whole room like a UFO in your house, so I put mine on the deck when in use! But you can't really put that much in it. We have a family of 5. Very limited amount of space for actual food inside the unit.

The first thing the teenagers and I prepared were some chicken fingers, which "air fried" rather quickly and were pretty good, though a little dry, but I chalked that up to leaving them in a little too long, since it was our first try at it.

Next, I tried some fish(flounder). Definitely a learning curve. The cook fished quickly, it wasn't bad. However, I could only put 2 pieces in at a time, and this was a pain, since there are usually 4 or 5 of us eating (2 adults, unless dad's at work, and three kids). You have to remove the "grill" to get the fish out without breaking it up, and the grill is VERY hot--this made...Read more

4 stars only coz it doesnt cook evenly. I have to constantly open it and flip whatever im cooking just to cook all sides BUT, I STILL LOVE IT. Healthiest choice I ever made. It cooks everything!!!!!! it toasts too. I rarely use my stove and oven except to cook soup but all else, I use this. Its cooks bacon beautifully. I reheat my pizza here and its still crunchy. Its a bit of a chore cleaning it up coz its heavy but what i do is i put a foil plate on the bottom to catch the oils and the grease so cleaning is kept to a minimum. I love this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Convenient alternative to an ordinary oven - but it takes up more space than I expected, and the timer is poorly designed, September 13, 2011

First off, while this cooks some things somewhat faster than an ordinary oven it is not really "three times" as fast. The "3X" in the title refers to the halogen lamp, the infrared heat, and the convection (which just means there's a fan that circulates the heat). The first thing I cooked in here was sweet potato fries (delicious!) on the included rack and it took pretty much exactly the 10 or so minutes it would have taken if I'd placed them on the top rack of my oven on Broil. Of course, I expect that would have used a lot more energy and would have heated up the kitchen - and happily the Big Boss doesn't do that.

It's a nice alternative to cooking things in a full-sized oven, and for things like roasts and chicken it does a great job - better than in the oven and certainly a lot faster than cooking, say, a roast in a crockpot. It does take up a lot of space - almost as much as the microwave that we ended up getting rid of because we didn't use it enough and because...Read more
