Summary: hate this toaster 2010-08-25
Comment: This is my second toaster in a year. It takes forever to toast anything and I have to set it on the max to get an english muffin to look a little brown. The crumbs get all over everything. Am online looking for another toaster. Why is it so hard to find one that has proper toasting elements?

Comment: The reason I purchased a new toaster was because my "Toastmaster" less than a year
old, took forever to toast the bread or else it would burn the toast and set off the
Smoke Alarm!!! When the toast was done the slots were not deep enough to project the done toast above the toaster rim, therefore necessary to
get a fork to get the toast out of the toaster and sometimes having to turn the
toaster upside down and still have trouble getting it out - also it would usually
only toast one side and not the other. This Black & Decker has all the same problems and am seriously considering returning it. What is wrong with these products today - nothing works like it used to. Very unhappy with this purchase!!!

Comment: Does what it is suppose to do, make toast. Works as to be expected.
The only thing that is hard to tell from the online pictures - this thing is made of black plastic. Looks kinda cheap and flimsy. Not a pretty toaster at all. I put it away after I use it since I don't want this cheap looking plastic object out for people to see.

Comment: I don't understand the complaints about this toaster. I bought it recently at WalMart for $15.88 because my Toastermaster fell and broke. This toaster works great. It toasts evenly and I like the fact that the tray underneath is removable.

Summary: Nice Toaster 2010-06-04
Comment: This toaster allows you to toast one side of a bagel while heating the other side. It will also toast both sides if you chose to. The slots are wider than other toasters I looked at. That's why I bought this one. There is plenty of room to toast overly-thick slices of bread or a split hard roll.
Utilize the "Frozen" button while toasting a fresh bagel at its highest setting. This button adds more time. The settings aren't high enough in my opinion. If you like your bagels toasted on the dark side you'll be disappointed, and you'll have to toast it twice.
The cord could be a tad bit longer. If placed on your counter top you shouldn't have a problem if an outlet is nearby. But if you place the toaster on a separate wooden "island" where the available outlet is near the floor, the cord may not reach. It certainly won't reach if the outlet isn't directly below the toaster.
The crumb tray is a pitiful design. It is a small, flat piece of metal that needs a very steady hand to remove it. The crumbs fall off with the slightest tip of the crumb tray.
After toasting, pull up the toaster knob slightly. What ever you're toasting will rise up further allowing easier access when removing it. I didn't see this feature mentioned in the directions.
Other reviews have complained about the plastic cabinet. To me that's a plus. The plastic is heavy and insulated, and not something that will easily crack or chip. The sides stay cool. They won't burn a wandering hand.
All-in-all it is a decent toaster for the money. When shopping in the stores for a bagel toaster, pay close attention to the width of the slots. They are not all the same. Some look barely able to accept a bagel without a struggle.
