DeLonghi XA660 Alfredo Accutime 6-Slice Toaster Oven

We purchased this toaster oven with a giftcard & after reading positive reviews about the brand. Normally we dont pay this kind of money but we figured we'd splurge with the giftcard.

Within a month we had problems. It sometimes wouldn't turn on but it was very inconsistant. After the 4th month, sparks were shooting out of the side & it quit working altogether.

We contacted Delonghi since it was under warrenty. They advised to take it to the nearest service center. We live in the Bay area and surprisingly, the nearest center was 90 minutes away, one way. We called them and they said we could send it in instead of bring it, but at our expense. We sent it and no one was there to get it so it sat at the post office for a week. No one from the service center has ever returned any of my phone calls & they told Delongi they never got any notification of any deliveries. I bought this oven upon glowing recommendations from relatives and friends who had owned DeLonghi's. They especially raved about the toasting capability. I guess I turned out to be the star-crossed owner. :-(

It is a nice size, and it cooked reasonably well (hence 2 stars instead of 1). But my main thing is toast, and that is where the problems lay. The timer knob broke after about six months--and the oven would get stuck "ON." If I didn't watch very closely, I would have a real problem on my hands, and I don't mean just burnt toast.

I debated whether I should try to get the unit fixed or throw it away and buy something else. After talking to different people, I concluded it would be more expensive to fix than replace. Sad, considering all the pollution in landfills, and that the oven cost a pretty penny.
