The styling was also very attractive, with the metallic red instead of Black and Decker's white plastic. Unfortunately this toaster oven is pretty much a total failure. When using it for muffins, the tops were just done and the bottoms had to be cut off about 1/5 of the way up, as they were burnt black. Toast was light brown on one side, burnt on the other. I thought perhaps the problem was the uneven distribution of heat from the bottom elements, so I made sure to cook with the base tray installed and all food items on the upper rack. It didn't help. Whether cooking something or reheating an item, no matter how long I let the toaster oven preheat or what settings I used, it burns the bottom of everything. The only thing it does not burn, and in fact cooks quite well, is a cheap frozen pizza...Read more 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Emerson .7 CuFT 6 Slice Toaster Oven Ok, I have this oven. Initally I would have agreed with the other reviewers. However I have discovered that the toaster and other functions actually allow the user to set the temperature. So if you set it at 450 you can expect burnt toast. Bread seems to toast best at 350 - I really love this toaster. Its size inside is the best feature. One can cook for two ppl enough egg rolls/ chicken strips etc. In fact I came online hoping to find it in black or stainless as the red does not match my current color scheme. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Emerson .7 CuFT 6 Slice Toaster Oven I bought this Emerson as a replacement for a really cheap Black and Decker toaster oven I purchased nearly a year ago (which I mishandled and broke). I was looking for a toaster oven for my kitchenette (no stove available there). I purchased the Emerson at Target because it could handle a 12" pizza, was nice looking on the eyes and it also isn't too big.
Pro's: 1. Comes with a rack and broiler pan (which I lined with foil), aesthetically pleasing. 2. Large interior (compared to my previous toaster oven). 3. Option to use top elements (broil setting), bottom elements (bake setting) or both (toast setting) 4. A "Keep On" function to simply cook without using the timer. 5. Does not get too hot on the sides - I can place objects about 2 inches on each side of the toaster oven and they will not be affected by heat even after an hour of cooking (as expected though, the top does get extremely hot). 6. Timer goes up to 60 mins...Read more |
