3.0 out of 5 stars Great at making Croutons... Toast? Not so much..., April 24, 2012

We received this item as a gift.

It has a remarkable ability to turn any bread into a dry crusty crouton. Even bagels. Its really amazing (sarcasm). Unfortunately we didn't need a crouton making machine. So as a toaster, its not so good.

As an oven it works as expected.

More minor gripes about the oven:
1) Its really easy to burn yourself on the inside of the door, as its all metal too. I suppose this is true with many toaster ovens.
2) To perform any function, the 4 knobs need to be rearranged like a combination lock. It would be nice if there was a simple "toast" button.

So, its just "OK". I wouldn't buy it if I knew how it performed. Its strictly average.

This KitchenAid counter top oven is a disappointment, I'm sorry to say. The chrome controls with black copy are very difficult to read under kitchen lights, which makes operation extremely frustrating. Maybe the black ones are better. It's great at warming and cooking small items, but takes way to long to toast, and broiling is near impossible. Back to the drawing board, folks.... this is inexcusably bad design.
