The well-written instructions tell you to first wipe down the toaster with a wet cloth, and for good reason: it arrives filthy, all covered in dust.

The toaster is of average construction, built like many in this price range with a thin plastic outer case. The case does not get unreasonably hot after a single use but will become untouchable after several repeated cycles, such as the initial three cycles in a row on high recommended by the instructions.

The bright LED display thankfully goes dark several minutes after use. The single LED digit indicates the chosen darkness setting from 1 to 8, and the series of illuminated bars count down during a toasting cycle. Presumably this electronic control will provide consistent results at a given setting.

My unit arrived with one sticky button that took significant effort to push, but after a day it loosened up to nearly normal.

I love this toaster. First bought the Kitchenaid but returned it because I couldn't get it to toast anywhere darker than beige. Price was no object.

Why I love it:

1. Great light to dark range adjustment
2. Wide slots with grips inside that hold thin to thick breads
3. Digital countdown lights that show me how much longer the toasting cycle has to go (great for when I want to prep something else while the toaster's working - I can just look over at the blinking lights)
4. Gentle "ding" lets me know the toast is done.
5. Bagel setting
6. Warming setting
7. Manual lift lever that raises the toasted item even higher than it's default position - in case you have an unusually small item you're toasting.
8. Exterior doesn't get burning hot like a metal toaster would.

The selling point for me for this toaster was the light display. I have 4 sons and they love watching the lights going down until it beeps and it pops up. I owned a T-Fal toaster previously, and it worked for us for several years through many, many toasting cycles. This one is easy to press down, simple, and easy to use. I do wish it had a frozen setting like my previous one. It has a "defrost" setting, but that just thaws the bread, it doesn't toast it. The bagel setting works great for bagels. Love that the crumb tray slides right out the front. Very easy to clean. All in all, a great little toaster!
