Comment: Our old toaster gave out only after a couple years of service. Dismayed, we picked up a new Toastmaster Cool Touch 2-slice toaster at our local warehouse store. It was the only one available and was in a buffed stainless steel finish which fit our kitchen decor well. We've been using now for about three years and it's given us pretty good service.
The toaster gives a nice even toast and I've only got two gripes. One is that the toaster control is not well calibrated. In order to get the moderate degree of toasting which we prefer, it is necessary to turn the control almost to the highest level. Well, we can do this and get what we want. Another minor problem is that the toaster, upon completion of toasting, doesn't always raise the toast high enough for extraction. Sometimes it's necessary to manually lift the handle and sometimes it's necessary to go fishing with a knife to remove the toast. It's a little aggravating, but one of those things you get used to. It works well with bagels and we like the little crumb tray for easy cleaning.
After using this toaster for several years, we note that it was rated by Consumer Reports in a recent issue as the lowest of the tested models. Well, the spread from highest to lowest rating was not very great. It's been a good appliance for us, even with the minor annoyances.
